Help & how to use AltarWed

Quick answers to the questions couples ask most. Cannot find what you need? Email us and a real person will help.

Building your website

How do I create my wedding website?

Sign up for a free account, and the setup wizard walks you through your names, your website link, your date, venue, a hotel block, a hero photo, a scripture, and your registry. Every step after your names and link is optional, so you can skip anything and add it later in the editor.

My guests cannot see my website. Why?

Your site starts as a private draft that only you can see. Open the website editor and publish it when you are ready, then anyone with the link can view it and RSVP.

What is my website link, and is it unique?

Your site lives at altarwed.com/wedding/your-names. You choose this link during setup and it has to be unique, so if your first choice is taken, try adding your wedding date or city.

Can I change my fonts and colors?

Yes. In the website editor, open the Design panel to pick a font theme, an accent color, your hero photo's layout and overlay, and even the font your names appear in. Every change saves automatically and shows in the live preview.

How do I add my gift registry?

On the Registry tab of the website editor, add a registry card for each place you are registered, with its name and link. You can add as many registries as you like, and guests see them as tidy buttons on your site.

Guests and RSVPs

How do I add guests?

On the Guest List page you can add guests one at a time, import your whole list from a spreadsheet (CSV or Excel) in one go, or connect a Google Sheet and AltarWed will keep your list in sync automatically (it checks for changes every 15 minutes).

Can I ask my guests my own questions when they RSVP?

Yes. You can add custom questions to your RSVP form (like "Are you joining the rehearsal dinner?"), and you can also switch off the built-in dietary and song-request questions if you do not need them.

How do my guests RSVP?

Each guest gets a personal RSVP link in their invite email. Guests can also visit your public website and find their invitation by name on the RSVP page.

How long is an RSVP invite link valid?

An emailed invite link stays valid all the way through your wedding weekend (it expires a few days after your wedding date), so late responders are never locked out. If you have not set a date yet, links last a year. Expired link? Just send that guest a fresh invite.

How many times can I email the same guest an invite?

Up to three invites per guest. After that the guest shows a "Max sent" badge, so you do not accidentally over-email anyone.

A guest unsubscribed. Can they still RSVP, and can they come back?

Yes. Unsubscribing stops that wedding's emails for the guest. The moment they RSVP, they are automatically re-subscribed, so your later updates reach them again.

Save-the-dates and email

My save-the-date landed in the Promotions tab in Gmail. Is something broken?

No, the email was delivered successfully. Gmail simply sorted it into the Promotions tab. Ask your guests to drag it into their Primary tab and reply once; Gmail then learns to deliver your future emails to Primary. We also send from a dedicated wedding-invite address to help with this.

When a guest replies to one of our emails, where does the reply go?

Straight to your own inbox, the email address on your AltarWed account. Replies are not sent to a shared AltarWed mailbox.

What photo file types and sizes can I upload?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, or HEIC (the format iPhones use), up to 20 MB per photo.

Photos and wedding party

How do I crop or recenter a photo?

On the Photos page click the crop icon on a photo, or on the Wedding Party page click Reposition under a member. Then drag the image to recenter it and use the zoom slider to crop in. Your original photo is never changed, so you can re-adjust any time.

How do I reorder my photos or wedding party?

Drag them into the order you want using the grip handle on each item. The new order saves automatically and is what your guests see.

What kind of photo works best for the hero banner?

A wide, landscape photo works best at the top of your site. Tall portrait photos get cropped at the top and bottom in the banner, but you can reposition them to choose what shows.

How many photos can my album hold?

Your photo album holds up to 500 photos, free. You can reorder them any time, and your guests see the album on your website's Photos tab.

Planning tools

Can AltarWed help me plan the seating chart?

Yes. The seating chart lets you drag guests onto tables, keeps households together with auto-seat, and gives you printable seating and table boards for the big day.

What other planning tools are included?

Every account includes a budget tracker (estimated vs. actual, mark things paid), a planning checklist with suggested tasks, a wedding party manager, hotel blocks for out-of-town guests, and a save-the-date sender. All free.

Can AltarWed help me plan the ceremony itself?

Yes, this is our favorite part. The ceremony builder helps you order every moment from processional to recessional, the vow builder helps you write vows, the scripture browser helps you pick your verse, and you can print a beautiful ceremony program when you are done.

Finding vendors

Does it cost anything to browse or contact vendors?

No. Browsing the vendor directory and sending inquiries is completely free for couples. Vendors are faith-aligned businesses (photographers, venues, florists, and more) who choose to be part of AltarWed.

Your account

How do I reset my password?

Use the "Forgot password" link on the login page. The reset link we email you expires after 15 minutes for security, so use it promptly.

How do I delete my account?

In your account settings, choose Delete account. This permanently removes your wedding website, guest list, and planning data, and it cannot be undone.
