Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 17, 2026
1. Who We Are
AltarWed (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates altarwed.com and app.altarwed.com. We are a faith-based wedding planning platform connecting Christian couples with wedding vendors. Contact us at hello@altarwed.com.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, including:
- Account information: Partner names, email address, and password when you register as a couple or vendor.
- Wedding information: Wedding date, venue details, story, photos, and other content you add to your wedding website.
- Guest information: Names, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, meal preferences, dietary restrictions, and RSVP details for guests you invite through the platform.
- Vendor information: Business name, category, location, photos, and contact details.
- Marketing consent: At registration, you may choose to allow AltarWed to use your information for advertising measurement and outreach. This is optional and defaults to off.
We also collect certain information automatically when you use our services, including IP address, browser type, device identifiers, pages visited, and referring URLs, via server logs, cookies, and similar technologies described in Section 8 below.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and wedding website
- Send RSVP invitations and save-the-date emails to guests you designate (every such email includes an unsubscribe link)
- Send transactional emails (password reset, account notifications)
- Display your public wedding website to visitors you share it with
- Measure how couples discover and use AltarWed (product analytics and acquisition attribution)
- Improve our platform and develop new features
- Where you have given explicit consent at registration, report conversion events to Meta (Facebook) through the Meta Conversions API to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns
- Respond to support requests and comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. If you have not opted in to advertising measurement, your data is not shared with Meta for advertising purposes.
4. Public Wedding Websites
When you publish your wedding website, certain information becomes publicly accessible at altarwed.com/wedding/[your-slug], including partner names, wedding date, venue, wedding party details, photos you upload, and registry links. You control what is published. You may unpublish or delete your website at any time from your dashboard.
Guest information collected through your RSVP form is private to you and is never displayed publicly.
5. Sharing of Information and Subprocessors
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers (subprocessors) below, who process it on our behalf and under contract, solely to operate the Service, and in the limited legal circumstances that follow.
| Subprocessor | What it does for us | Personal data that flows to it |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Azure (US) | Cloud hosting, SQL database, file and photo storage, media CDN, and shared-state cache | All data stored by the Service: couple, vendor, and guest records (names, email, phone, mailing addresses, dietary info), uploaded photos, and application logs. This is our primary data store. |
| Stripe (US) | Payment processing for vendor subscriptions and couple print orders | Billing email, subscription and payment identifiers, and the amount charged. Card numbers are entered on Stripe’s own hosted checkout and are never received or stored by AltarWed. |
| Resend (US) | Transactional and relationship email delivery (RSVP invites, save-the-dates, welcome, reminders, and notifications) | Recipient email address, recipient name, and the message content of the emails we send. |
| Lob (US) | Printing and physical mailing of save-the-date and invitation postcards | Guest name and full mailing address, and the return address you provide, for each mailed piece. |
| Cloudflare (US) | DNS, network and CDN proxy for altarwed.com, and the Turnstile anti-abuse check on our public RSVP finder | IP address, request metadata, and the Turnstile token. As our network edge, Cloudflare sees traffic to our public site. |
| Google (US/EU) | Sign-in with Google (OAuth) and, at a couple’s request, syncing a guest list from a Google Sheet the couple connects | The couple’s Google account email and OAuth tokens, and, if the couple enables Sheet sync, the guest data read from that sheet. |
| Meta (Facebook) (US) | Advertising measurement via the Meta Pixel and the Meta Conversions API, only for users who consented to advertising measurement | For consenting users only: a hashed (irreversible) email address and browser and pixel identifiers, used to measure ad effectiveness. Users who do not consent send no data to Meta. |
| PostHog (US) | Product analytics inside the authenticated dashboard, to understand how couples and vendors use the Service | For users who enabled analytics: usage events and a user identifier. It uses local storage (not cookies), does not record sessions, and does not receive your email address. |
We also make limited outbound calls to a public scripture lookup service (bible-api.com) to display Bible verses. These requests contain only the verse reference you choose and no personal information.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety and rights of our users.
- Business transfers: If AltarWed is acquired or merged, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email before this occurs.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account and wedding data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance reasons. Wedding website data is soft-deleted and may be retained for up to 90 days before permanent deletion.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information through your account settings or by contacting us.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Opt-out of advertising measurement: If you previously consented to advertising measurement at registration, you may withdraw consent at any time by emailing us. California residents may also use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in our site footer.
- Opt-out of email communications: Every save-the-date and welcome email includes an unsubscribe link. You may also email us to be removed from all future outreach.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@altarwed.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Guests whose information a couple added: If you are a wedding guest and a couple added your information to the Service, for example through a guest list or RSVP, that couple controls their guest list as described in our Terms of Service. You may still request access to or deletion of your information by emailing hello@altarwed.com. Because the couple controls the guest list, we will coordinate with the couple who added your information to complete your request, and we may refer your request to them. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use the following cookies and similar technologies:
- Authentication cookie: A single httpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Strict cookie to keep you logged in to the dashboard at app.altarwed.com. This is strictly necessary and cannot be disabled.
- Meta Pixel (Facebook Pixel): A third-party JavaScript tag that sets cookies (
_fbp,_fbc) and sends pageview data to Meta. This is used for measuring the effectiveness of our Facebook and Instagram advertising. It is only loaded after you accept cookies in our consent banner or, for EU/California visitors, is off by default. You may opt out at any time via the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in our footer. - PostHog product analytics: A product analytics tool running within the authenticated dashboard (app.altarwed.com) only. It uses localStorage (not cookies), does not record sessions, and does not receive your email address. PostHog analytics load in the authenticated dashboard only if you enabled analytics/marketing consent at registration, and never when a Global Privacy Control or Do-Not-Track signal is present.
If you reject cookies in our consent banner, or if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, the Meta Pixel will not load. PostHog analytics in the dashboard are controlled separately by the analytics/marketing consent you set at registration, and never load when a Global Privacy Control or Do-Not-Track signal is present. You can withdraw or change your Meta Pixel consent at any time via the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in our footer.
9. California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. The Meta Pixel constitutes “sharing” under CPRA when it is active.
To opt out, click the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in our footer, use our cookie consent banner, or email hello@altarwed.com. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal automatically.
10. Children's Privacy
AltarWed is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
11. Affiliate Disclosure
AltarWed participates in affiliate programs including the Amazon Associates Program. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Our /resources page contains affiliate links. When you purchase through these links, AltarWed may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. We only recommend products we genuinely believe will help couples build strong, faith-based marriages.
12. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted passwords (bcrypt), HTTPS throughout, short-lived JWT tokens, and Azure cloud security controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We will notify you promptly if a data breach occurs that affects your information.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page with an updated effective date and, for significant changes, by sending an email to your registered address.
14. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or our data practices, contact us at hello@altarwed.com.
